Tutor time activity. Can be used at any level. In the style of the Academy Awards, students ‘nominate’ the subjects they think they have done well in. This is a good way to get a tutor group to review their performance over the year, or halfway through the year. It can also be useful as a piece of student research into which subjects the students feel most positive about.

This assembly challenges how students view what learning is, especially in preparing for examinations. It emphasises the importance of learning not just for the exam. Using the Eiffel Tower as an illustration of how the view from the top and bottom are very different.

“It will look good on your CV” is not a phrase I like. I say do it because it’s the right think to do and will make you a better person. This assembly was inspired by a personal tragedy but the pride I had that the person had lead a great life rather than have a great CV.

Originally put together as an assembly, it is also useful as part of an English curriculum on Shakespeare.
